About Sam
Sam was elected Democratic National Committeeman for Maine in 2004, a position held in the past by Ed Muskie, George Mitchell, and Tom Allen.
As Democratic National Committeeman, he has traveled around the state to meet with local Democratic committees as part of his promise to better connect Maine Democrats with the national party.
He is President of Spencer Monks Development, a firm which focuses on redeveloping former manufacturing plants and mills into new commercial and residential uses. He previously was Vice of President of Harper’s Development in Winthrop and Managing Director of Saco Island, LLC.
During the Clinton Administration, he served on the White House staff for four years, including as Special Assistant to Vice President Al Gore.
Sam is a graduate of Harvard and Harvard Business School.
A native of Maine, Sam grew up in Standish and in Portland where he currently lives.
Sam has been a life-long volunteer in Maine Democratic campaigns. He currently serves on the Downtown Portland Corporation, Demcorps, the Maine Democratic State Committee and the Democratic State Committee Executive Committee.
